[Chilton, for the most part, disdained patients like this -- while the erratic body language suggested abnormal functioning in the basal ganglia, the emotional disposition displayed an incoherence that couldn't possibly be manipulated effectively. Chilton appreciated a little dissociation in his prime patients, but there was such a thing as excess to the point of handicap. The fact that the patient (John Doe, officially, but Chilton had picked out a much less savory nickname for the man) manifested such a severity of dissociation that he had two sophisticated, warring personalities only incited that fact that this man was not project material. He was a nuisance.

Nevertheless, as the rising supernova of the psychiatric wing, Chilton had to take the case as it was offered to him; there was a methodology to exacting success.

He noted the scratching -- his nosed wrinkled in response. He'd have Reggie soak the damn chair in Lysol after this.]

The duality is almost poetic.

[But just shy of the praise, something that was based in Chilton's own bias. Duality reminded him of Harvey Dent. This wretched fury juxtaposed with angelic innocence, the fact that the man was found desolate in a church -- it was enough to reassure Chilton of his atheism.

When the man, through his rash-born scratching and fidgeting and shrieking, dropped the ring he had held so dearly, the thing rolled towards Chilton. With a frown, the psychiatrist leaned over to pick it up, and set it on his desk.
