I never accused you to be capable of love, mind. [Just sympathy -- which was, on average, more useful.] And I don't know if I'm going to sign. Or not. But both you and Raina make persuasive arguments against allying with him, congratulations.

[Said somewhat sarcastically -- Chilton couldn't take Abduxel's account at face value, but he needed someone to blame if it ended badly.]

What? Did you finally remove his virginity? I presume that's what the stick up his posterior was hiding.

[Chilton smirked, silently congratulating himself on that epic burn.]

[Ohhhhh.

He still looks fairly sullen until Chilton makes that quip about virginity, which has him looking at Dr. Chilton in unmasked surprise, and then bursting into unexpected genuine laughter.]

Oh, no, no, no, that's a closely guarded treasure, Dr. Chilton, although between you and me, I think he's got a little crush on me. [It's a science/fearboner crush, a "I want to torture you until you scream because I've never tortured a demon before" crush, but Dr. Chilton can probably get at least the gist of that himself.]

I actually asked him if he was a virgin, at the Swear-in.

[Confusion, aggravation at not being able to word it properly (omitting a name when he's not sure if that means all other names, too, is a serious pain in the ass), Will leans back in his seat, throwing out one hand.]

If he's smart, it matters. If you're saying he isn't smart...what's the point?

[Will's close to this whole dealing with the devil, empathizing with him, thinking of those verbal nudges left by Hannibal to him and others, and a little heated at what he perceives as Chilton shutting him out for saying something he doesn't like. His own "deal" went sour, and Raina's made it sound like this isn't headed to shit but is already there. Will is going to do what he has to if it comes to that, but having already experienced what happens when deals go down the drain? He'd really rather not. He'd rather pull up his shirt, give Chilton details from home (more tactfully worded than king on the chessboard), do everything possible to prevent that. What was to stop the devil from dragging in more than Raina? This was another Greek tragedy unfolding, and Chilton wasn't the only one who could decide he wanted a change in genre.]

And he did lie and claim that he wasn't?

[Chilton's eyebrows, already arched at the crush comment -- quite obviously that seemed like a dangerous situation for the demon -- kept his composure tight.]

Hah! As if he'd answer me. He called me boring, which I've learned to take as a compliment.

Then we can agree that he is, and simply played the haughty soul to avoid your mockery.

[He says, making no effort to mark that on his calendar.]

[An interesting turn of events. Maintaining life and death within his hands -- no doubt that presented a dysphoric mood. Chilton almost had sympathy for his patient, knowing full well how the role of executioner weighed down on Peter.]

In lesser hands, this would be gravely concerning.

But -- you mentioned new employment, as well? I can't help but wonder how you've grouped the two together.

I don't know, i'm thinking it's kind of concerning even in my hands.

[ But Peter's suddenly much less interested in talking about this part of things, realizing just how little he'd like to be judged for making the decisions he was encouraged to make. Not that he's ashamed of himself for doing what he thinks is almost the right thing, but- he doesn't want this to turn into a conversation that's meant to pick apart his brain. ]

Might be more worth it to talk about after i've actually been working for more than a few days.

[ A church. Where he can hear people's sins. ]

[She is not being dismissed, even if it takes her a second to come up with the reason to stay- ah. Crane. Again. Right.]

She did, yes. And gleefully so. I certainly wouldn't disagree with the data your investigation had wrought -- seems fairly unsurprising, don't you agree?

He rejects for that lasting trauma of rejection.

Spiritual healing, I suppose, is a logical avenue for you. People seem to trust you fairly quickly, as far as I've taken note of.

That doesn't even have anything to do with it, I stopped believing ages ago. I'm not sure I ever did for any other reason besides show.

But after- [ Oh. He still hasn't talked about that. Mostly because he's pretty sure he's fully aware that Chilton could have him arrested for what he did and for causing harm to the rest of the ImPorts by proxy. ]

I haven't slept in weeks , I just keep waiting for them to figure it out. And it's nice to know that if I need it, church's have sanctuary.

But, after?

[That abrupt pause and switch of subject (as it seemed to Chilton, anyway) was cue enough. He kept his tone gentle while pressing -- but pressed nevertheless.]

I'm not here to judge, you know.

[Easy context to claim. Especially with the clues Peter left to follow -- the sleepless weeks, the need for sanctuary. The implied want for a relief of guilt.]

Anyone else? Who has been harmed by Crane?

[A beat.]

You might want to begin with investigating his patient list.

You might not judge, but i'm pretty sure the courts will. And if i'm right, you're obligated to report anything that might be considered harmful to others.

[ Peter would prefer to not be seen as any kind of stupid - as if rattling off psychiatric regulations is going to earn him some kind of points, or perhaps none at all. Because talking about it is good for him, right before they cart him off elsewhere.

Especially when he's working on plans to do it again. ]
